SLP Traveling Board Meeting – August 19th, 2018

Association, Board and League (Erik / Jeb)

Key updates:

  • Financials closed for season – Operated at a break even year ($10k profit from Slugfest, $10k in donations)
  • September board meeting to review season plan and teams
  • October board meeting for elections
  • November board meeting to approve budgets and plan for the upcoming season

Items requiring board discussion / vote:

  • Process for approving scholarships – Approved the offering of scholarships.Interested families should put request in writing to board president (Erik)

 

Treasurer (Mark)

Key updates:

  • Operated at a break even year ($10k profit from Slugfest, $10k in donations)

 

Secretary and Registration (Gino)

Key updates:

  • 35 players have registered
    • 15 7th graders
    • 13 8th graders
    • 4 9th graders
    • 3 10th graders

 

Player and Coach Development (Greg)

Key updates:

Coaches meetings with season recaps were held on Monday, August 6th.   All teams were in attendance but 14AA (meeting held on Wednesday August 14th).   Good feedback from coaches regarding tournaments, seasons and player information.   

 

Tryouts to be held on Saturday, September 8th - Monday September 10th.   Evaluators have been contacted and secured.   Will be sending out note to them shortly with specific times and locations.   13s will be directed and led by Jeb Myers at Paul Frank.    14/15 tryouts will be directed and led by Greg Meyer at Carlson.   Note has also been sent out to parent coaches to help with stations and directing players. 

 

Needs: Board members to help with check in, pass out bib numbers (Jeb looking for check for bib numbers)), binders with eval sheets (Jeb?) and snacks drinks for coaches and evaluators.   Gino offered to help with check in at one of the fields.  He will check with Emmy for helping out with check in at the other field.

 

Team selection meeting will be on Saturday, September 15th 10:00am.   Will need input from evaluators, past coaches, HS and Junior Legion head coaches.   

Projecting 3 teams at 13 and 3 to 4 teams at 14 and 15 year olds.   

 

 

Slugfest and Tournaments (Mike)

Key updates:

  • Slugfest:  Going with bracket play again this year (no complaints)
  • Slugfest:  Strong recommendation to not offer warm food again this year
  • Slugfest:  Looking to raise registration fees for Slugfest

 

Umpires/Trusted Coaches (Joel)

Key updates:

  • Many past coaches—and all new coaches — will need to renew their Trusted Coaches (TC) certifications for 2019. I will secure more registration coupons from TC and send reminder emails to the impacted coaches after coach selection for the 2019 season.  

 

Schedule (Emmy)

Key updates:

  • Overall, scheduling season was good
  • Will apply learning experiences and feedback for next year
  • Still interested in managing the schedule for the travel teams

 

Volunteers (Kim/Julie)

Key updates:

  • Overall things ran fairly smoothly; Will continue to have teens on call to fill last minute needs
  • Netted ~$2200 after paying teens to cover a few shifts (~$250 per weekend); had 9 players buyout - checks cashed

Items requiring board discussion / vote:

  • Were limited concessions easier?  Anything else you’d want to change?  (Need more $1 bills for change next year)
  • How did volunteers doing field prep at end of night work?  Anything you’d want to change?

 

Uniforms (Sarabeth)

Key updates:

  • Want to look at other vendors/kickback on Spirit wear
  • Want to look for new approach to coaches’ shirts
  • Looking for new shirt design and hat provider

 

Equipment (Brian)

Key updates:

  • All the equipment has been turned in. 14AA dropped off on Saturday.  Rob still has the bat and pop up net.
